Gordon Institute of Business Science
A proudly Africa-based institution, GIBS is committed to serving, inspiring and advancing world-class business practices across the continent and beyond. We embrace a human-centric approach to business; striving to make business healthier and more sustainable through decisive leadership, long-term strategic intent, and the development of inclusive, equitable, diverse and climate-sensitive business environments.
Built on a reputation for entrepreneurial thinking and excellence, GIBS continues to evolve in step with the needs of business, embracing technology and disruption, while addressing the importance of humanising the world of work. We strive to equip students and organisations with the tools needed to succeed in a changing world.
The School has grown dramatically since its founding in 2000. Established on the back of a significant endowment by Sir Donald Gordon, the University of Pretoria's business school was started as a "business school for business", under founding Dean Professor Nick Binedell, and has grown into a world-class African institution and research centre. Long regarded as a business school with impeccable international credentials, GIBS, under the leadership of current Dean, Professor Morris Mthombeni continues its focus on quality experiential learning.
GIBS students are challenged to lead with integrity and innovation, and to embrace a commitment to life-long learning. This approach is exemplified in the high-quality and innovative GIBS teaching methods, which are supported by the content created by our local and international faculty, the research that underpins our academic excellence, and the ongoing interactions we enjoy with our global networks. It is our ambition to build better societies, better leaders and better businesses.
