MBA students give back through annual CSR initiative
Despite a rainy Saturday morning, second-year MBA students from the Tshwane School of Business in Hatfield came together in the spirit of service to carry out their annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, undertaken as part of their Project Management module.
The group visited Tshwane Haven in Groenkloof, where they donated a range of essential items to support the shelter’s residents. Contributions included dried goods such as rice, milk and tinned foods, along with cleaning detergents and pre-loved items collected by the students.
Demonstrating the collaborative nature of the MBA programme, students from the Polokwane and Mbombela campuses also participated in the initiative through the school’s distance learning model. To ensure their involvement, contributions from the respective campuses were delivered to the shelter a day earlier via Checkers60, proving that distance is no barrier when it comes to making a meaningful impact.
The CSR drive forms part of Tshwane School of Business’ practical approach to learning, where students are encouraged to apply classroom theory in real-world contexts. Through the initiative, students in the Project Management module were tasked with planning, coordinating and executing the project from inception to delivery, providing valuable hands-on experience in leadership, teamwork and stakeholder management.
“Our appointed Project Manager did an exceptional job in leading this initiative. The entire class was actively involved throughout the process, and I am incredibly proud of what the students achieved,” said module lecturer Alveno Prins.
For student Phumlani Ndlovu, who served as the Project Manager for the initiative, the experience extended far beyond academic requirements.
“Giving back is fundamental to being a responsible corporate citizen. Through the MBA programme, we are not only learning in a classroom setting, but also developing practical skills by applying them through the projects and group activities we undertake,” he said.
The annual CSR initiative stands as a reflection of Tshwane School of Business’ commitment to developing graduates who are not only academically equipped, but also socially conscious leaders prepared to create meaningful impact in their communities and industries.
