At MANCOSA we believe that success in the workplace depends on the combination of theoretical skills and practical experience. The course content and associated assessment interventions of the MBA Degree aim at developing the unique critical thinking skills of each individual. Assessment Strategies
Assessment focuses on measuring the achievement of specific learning objectives for each module. Students are exposed to real life situations using case studies and other appropriate interventions. The aim is to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. A range of assessment tools is used appropriate to the level of study. The nature of the specific assessment tool varies with the nature of the module.

Assessment methods include:

  • Work based assignments – An assignment is submitted for each module that constitutes 50% of the final assessment mark
  • Examinations – An examination is written at the end of each semester for each module. The examination constitutes 50% of the final assessment mark.

Examination Centres
Examinations may be written in Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, Nelspruit, East London, Polokwane, Swaziland, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Zambia, Mozambique, Kenya, Botswana, Kimberly and Zimbabwe. Other centres may be considered depending on the number of candidates.

MBA Alternative Access Programme - 1 Year

This one year programme provides the student with the foundation knowledge necessary to gain access to the MBA programme. The subjects covered are:

MBA Stage 2 - 1 Year

Dissertation Stage

Research Methods will be assessed via an individual research proposal. Students have an additional 6 months to complete the research proposal and a dissertation on an approved topic, demonstrating analytical and research skills. The dissertation provides an opportunity for students to pursue their own study within an area of management identified in their studies. This should be between 12 000 and 15 000 words.

Graduation

On completion of all compulsory/elective cousework and the dissertation, the student will graduate with the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree.

The MANCOSA MBA is taught and supported by teaching faculty who understand the problems associated with putting theory into practice. Suitably qualified and experienced academic faculty is appointed in the various tuition centres to provide ongoing telephonic and e-mail support to students.

Most of the faculty is involved in research in the field of business with a significant number of publications and articles to their name. Their extensive experience in management education as well as their links with industry and commerce adds tremendous value to the student experience.

MANCOSA MBA

Programme Admissions Requirements
To be eligible to join the MANCOSA MBA Programme you will need any one of the following minimum qualifications:

  • Direct Access – MBA Year 1
    • A University Degree (M+3) or
    • A National Diploma (M+3) or
    • An Honours level qualification or a 4 year Diploma or
    • MANCOSA Certificate in Management Studies or
    • An equivalent NQF level 6 qualification
    • Applicants must also:
      • have at least 2 years work experience
      • be at least 23 years of age
  • Alternate Access – MBA Foundation Programme
    • Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements for admission to the MBA Programme, but have considerable work experience may apply for the Recognition of Prior Learning in order to be admitted to the MBA Foundation Programme (Alternate Access). Such candidates must be at least 27 years of age.

On completion of the foundation programme, students are eligible for entry into the 2 year MANCOSA MBA programme.

MANCOSA MBA in Tourism

Entry requirements:

  • 3 year recognised Bachelors degree or
  • National Diploma or
  • Any equivalent NQF 6 qualification and
  • Have at least 3 years appropriate experience

Students are guided through a structured learning experience by means of a study programme that includes:

  • comprehensive study guides and prescribed readings for self tuition and guidance

This is complemented by a dedicated e-mail support system and a well maintained and user-friendly website.

Workshops
Two workshops are held during the academic year. A scheduled enrichment workshop is held for the numerate modules.

The workshops help introduce students to MANCOSA, its policies and all relevant information that will make the individual’s study a pleasant and rewarding experience. It also forms an ideal platform for networking. Students are encouraged to attend these workshops as critical areas of the syllabus, course content and assignments are covered.
