MBA student testimonials

Although you cover an incredible amount of content through: interactive class discussions, assignments (both individually and with your syndicate), case studies and presentations, I cannot help but feel that the real education was the experience of it all. This is evident in the things we would otherwise never have been able to do (especially the foreign exchange program), and more specifically the experiences shared with my MBA wolf pack of 2011!

Before you go rushing off to reap the rewards of a hard earned MBA, begin with the end in mind. So take the time to figure out where you want to go... and most importantly, remember to get there your way!

To say that my MBA was one of the best educational experiences of my life would be understating it. Not only was it a huge learning curve in theoretical terms, but it was a Mile Stone in my life, one that I will never forget and that prepares me for continuing on my journey.

The lectures during the course of the MBA could not be compared to those of a normal degree because of the fact that they were filled with heated debates, endless laughs and many memorable moments.

All in all the year was great. Aside from being filled with ups and downs, trials and tribulations, I have left there relatively unscathed with a head full of new knowledge, a bag full of precious memories, some killer networking skills, and many new friends.

"My year at WBS was one of self discovery. I met the most amazing people some of whom have become friends. I discovered that you can teach an old dog new tricks i.e. I was one of the older members of the group and got to learn a lot from everyone"

My exchange experience took me to Chicago (pronounced “Shee-Car-Go”), aka ChiTown, The Windy City, at Chicago Booth Business School. Booth is a truly world-class business school where lecturers are (in)famous venture capitalists and business people known for some spectacular successes and failures – teaching from a broad range of experiences.

My time in Chicago was filled with so many wonderful memories, friendships formed and lessons learned. It really was a ‘once in a lifetime experience’ and something I will never forget. It was also an experience I’d dreamed about for many years. Thank you to WBS for making one of my biggest dreams, to go to business school at one of the world’s premier institutions, come true – I am one lucky lady!

I began my journey into the MBA thinking that I knew what to expect. Oh was I wrong! The journey took many twists and turns but eventually, at the end of 2010, it was all worth it.

This journey offered more than just an educational experience and change of thought process. It brought a whole new group of people into my life. The countless hours spent working on syndicate assignments would lead to you either creating everlasting friendships or begin to cringe at the thought of having to work with someone again.

Through the MBA program I was given the opportunity to broaden my horizons and take my electives abroad at Manchester Business School, UK.

The overall experience that I took away with me from the program is priceless.

I was given the opportunity to attend Manchester Business School in 2010 as part of the WITS MBA exchange program. This opportunity was one that I later found to be priceless and one that truly complemented the experience of undertaking to study an MBA. During my three months in the UK (September 2010 – December 2010) I completed four electives, namely; Strategic Retail Management, Venture Capital and Private Equity, Portfolio Investments and finally Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility.

I found myself interacting and studying with people from many different countries and cultures. This experience truly broadened my scope of understanding and led to me changing my thought process as I was exposed to points of view that I would never have be exposed to in South Africa. As a result of the exchange, my network branch has broadened to countries as far apart as Peru, Mexico, Columbia, the United States, Canada and Europe to the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China.

The overall experience is one that I recommend to anyone who is afforded this invaluable opportunity.
