NMMU Business School opens office in George
George, Western Cape – The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) Business School this month opened a new office in George and will provide management, leadership and skills development training solutions and programmes to adult learners, businesses, industry and local governments in the Southern Cape.
The opening of the new office, located in 1 Joubert Plaza, Meade Street, George, and the appointment of staff, result from the NMMU Business School’s need to serve its existing clients in the Southern Cape region but also to address a demand for cutting-edge, quality training programmes.
Apart from the NMMU Business School’s block release MBA programme presented in George, a basket with 131 short learning, nine skills and five certificate programmes as well as a diploma programme will become available to adult learners and stakeholders in HR, training, talent management and staff development with immediate effect.
Organisations can utilise NMMU Business School’s programmes as turn-key in house training solutions while adult learners can register or apply for management, skills and short learning programmes that will be scheduled according to a pre-determined timetable, which can be obtained from the NMMU Business School’s George and Southern Cape office.
At present, training delivery will take place at various sites in George and the Southern Cape, but NMMU Business School is in the process of finalising a lease for new premises that will become a training delivery point and the Business School’s Southern Cape administrative office.
Diploma and certificate programmes such as the Management Development Diploma Programme, Business Management Skills Programme, and Advanced, Intermediate and Foundation Leadership Certificate programmes will be offered on a part-time basis, and range between one or two years. Classes will be scheduled conveniently after working hours or within the times that clients specify for in-house delivery.
Short Learning Programmes are presented in several subject areas: administration, business development and entrepreneurship, communication, customer service, economics, finance, HR & labour relations, leadership, management, operations, personal development, quality, safety and strategy. These programmes will be presented as full day classes, and range from one, two, three, four or five day classes, depending on the programme. Short Learning Programmes will also be offered as an in-house training solution.
NMMU Business School will present skills programmes that include: Basic Business Principles; Business Communication; a Certificate in Project Management; Interpersonal Skills Programmes; Labour Relations, Labour Law and HR Management, to name a few.
Elsa Myburgh, Manager of NMMU Business School George & Southern Cape, says the Business School will redefine the training landscape.
“The NMMU Business School will support working individuals in their on-going quests for career progression and personal development while enhancing employees and workforces, empowering them to become high-performance assets to employers. This will ultimately contribute to the overall wealth creation, growth and sustainability of the George and the Southern Cape.
Prof Piet Naude, Director of the NMMU Business School said:
“We create leaders who are innovators and independent thinkers empowered to shape the future by directly contributing to economic prosperity, personal wealth, the upliftment of society and ecological sustainability.
“We also pledge our academic and intellectual resources to support the Southern Cape. We will engage and align very closely with trade, industry and local government over the next few months, and we will not rest until we have contributed significantly. We share the ambition and drive for a beautiful future in this region.”
